OUR ARTISTS: THE KIRKS
With the release of the full-length Loud Mouth Young Boy album, The Kirks bring a new feel to a classic genre. Lush with vocal duets, addicting progressions, and an alt folk edge, the record boasts the aesthetic of classic country anthems. Although the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds it all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the record never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.
The first single, “Half Full”, is an instant country-rock classic. Complete with a fun and edgy attitude, catchy choruses, and a driving beat, the songs seems to build and breathe as it plays on.
“The concept of the song is taken from the old adage about the cup in comparison to pessimism and optimism. Life's too short to be down all the time, even if you only got half a cup of water left, it better be half full. It jumps out at you. The title track, "Loud Mouth Young Boy" is all encompassing, talking about a young man looking back on a young boy with big dreams, thinking about where those dreams went, and deciding to continue to pursue them again. Half Full takes the upside of that and runs with it”, explains songwriter Jordan Kirk of the bands single.
Although the single does speak volumes for the record, to get a real understanding of where The Kirks are coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.
“Since our EP was a little all over the country music spectrum, this was more pointed and perhaps a little more cohesive, despite still being a diverse album. But also keeping with the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality of so many country artists before us, we try and incorporate traditional country while still making it feel and sound new”, says the band of the album and songwriting approach.
The Kirks is a duo consisting of married couple Jordan and Hartlee Kirk. The two started off just playing chords together for fun. Sometimes, they’d get a third guitar player so Jordan could pick up the fiddle. Soon enough they realized they were onto something great and 3 years after they were married, the band came to fruition. After releasing their first EP New Tyme in 2015, the two went on to bring in a drummer, lead guitarist, and a fiddle player. It was then that the Loud Mouth Young Boy album was finally born. The record is the epitome of where The Kirks are at with their sound and songwriting and both hope to keep the current lineup.
The Loud Mouth Young Boy album is now available for streaming and downloads on most major digital outlets and the first full band gig is upcoming this November at The Blue Light Live in Lubbock, TX, the bands home base. The CD release party will be the first of many shows in support of their release.
